Court Closures Continue: December 12, 2020 – January 4, 2021

Manitoba Provincial Courts have continued to suspend out-of-custody matters until January 4, 2021.

  • This applies to trials, sentencings, and regular “docket” appearances in PTC or “remand” court in Winnipeg where the accused person is not in jail. The Courts have posted the “new dates” here.
  • For “circuit courts”, such as Steinbach or Morden, all appearances are canceled, including inmates in custody. If the matter was appearing between December 14 to December 31, 2020 in a circuit court, you can check the new dates here.
  • It does not apply to any Winnipeg matter where the accused person is in jail, although some jails in Manitoba are currently under lockdown and not transporting inmates for trial.
  • If the matter is being heard in the Court of Queen’s Bench, this notice applies to any criminal matter, and was recently extended to January 8, 2021. See the current notice here.

If you or a loved one has a matter that was scheduled to be heard during that time period, it may be automatically adjourned until after January 4.

If you are unsure whether or not your matter will be rescheduled, please speak to your legal counsel about your particular matter. If you have no legal counsel, please feel free to contact me.
